Polyaspartic or epoxy for your floor?

The honest version. Neither one wins everywhere, and the answer usually comes down to sunlight and how long you can lose the space.

How it goes

What does a same-day floor actually involve?

1

Measure and test

Square footage, slab condition, moisture, and how much sun it takes. Sun exposure is usually what decides the system.

2

Grind and repair

Diamond grinding to an open profile, cracks routed and filled. The fast cure does not forgive weak prep, it just fails sooner.

3

Base and broadcast

Base coat down and worked quickly, flake broadcast if you picked it. This is the part with a short working window.

4

Topcoat and hand back

Clear topcoat, then a few hours. Foot traffic is often the same evening, vehicles commonly the next day.

Local ground

Where polyaspartic earns its keep here

Outdoors, mostly, and anywhere you cannot lose the space for three days. Epoxy ambers in sunlight. A driveway apron or an uncovered patio off Atascocita Road shifts color within a season or two, where polyaspartic holds it. The other half is the calendar. It cures in hours rather than days, which matters somewhere the July average high is 94.5 degrees and the work wants to happen early. The trade is real though: it goes off fast, it is less forgiving to apply, and it costs more per square foot than epoxy for the same job. That is the honest swap.

July and August average highs of 94.5 and 94.9 degrees Holds color where epoxy ambers Suits patios, driveways and pool surrounds Often back in service the same day

Why us

Why the fast cure cuts both ways

A short working window means mistakes cannot be fixed on the fly. The mix has to be right, the slab has to be ready, and the crew has to move. Get any of that wrong and it sets while you are still deciding.

    Prep does not get rushed

A same-day floor is only fast at the coating stage. The grinding takes exactly as long as it takes.

    Small batches

Mixed to the working window rather than the bucket, so nothing goes off in the pail.

    Dew point watched

Slab temperature read on the day. A fast cure still will not beat moisture condensing under it.

    Clean site

Dust to a vacuum, wash water contained. Nothing reaches a storm drain.

  • Diamond-ground to CSP 2 to 3
  • Moisture tested before quoting
  • Slab temperature read against dew point
  • Mixed in small batches to the window
  • Written number before anything mixes
  • Locally owned, Harris County weekly

Cost and timing

Figure $8 to $12 per square foot installed. It runs above epoxy for the same area, and the reasons are real: the material costs more and the short working window needs more hands on site.
Foot traffic, usually yes, often within a few hours of the topcoat. Vehicles commonly wait until the next day. We give you the actual window for the system and the weather, not a brochure figure.
It is the chemistry. Epoxy resins break down slowly under UV and shift amber. Polyaspartics are UV stable, so a patio or driveway keeps the color you picked.
In a closed garage with little daylight, often not. Epoxy is better value there. If the door stays open, or the floor runs out to a driveway apron, the color stability starts earning its keep.
Usually, with a textured broadcast for grip. Constant wet and bare feet make the finish choice matter more than the resin. We would talk through texture before color.

Where it works

Sometimes, as a topcoat, if the epoxy is sound and well bonded. If it is lifting or was never ground properly, it comes off first. Coating over a failing floor buys a few months at most.
It narrows the window rather than stopping the job. Overnight lows sit in the mid-70s from June through August, so the dew-point margin gets thin. We read slab temperature on the day and move the pour if it is not right.
Scratch and stain resistance are comparable, and polyaspartic handles hot tires well. Epoxy wins on build thickness, which is why heavy industrial floors still tend to be epoxy with a polyaspartic topcoat.
Close, within the flake and pigment ranges available. Exact matching to a paint chip is not something we would promise. We bring samples out and let you see them in your own light.
