How is a metallic floor actually made?

Sample board first

We pour a board in your colors and leave it with you. Screens lie about metallics, and the room light changes everything.

Grind and prime

Diamond grinding to an open profile, repairs made, then a pigmented base coat that sets the background tone.

Pour and move it

Metallic resin poured, then worked with squeegee, roller and air until the veins sit where they should. This is the part that cannot be redone.

Topcoat

A clear coat over the top for wear and gloss level. Foot traffic the next day, furniture back once it has hardened.

What to expect

Can you choose how a metallic floor turns out?

Partly. A metallic floor is pigment suspended in clear resin, moved around while it is still wet. The installer works it with a squeegee, a roller and sometimes air, and the particles drift into veins as it levels. That is the whole trick, and it is why no two floors match. It also means the pattern gets steered, not specified. We can agree colors, how busy it reads and roughly where the light veins fall, but nobody can hand you a drawing and reproduce it exactly. Most people in Atascocita put it somewhere it gets looked at: an entry, a den, a showroom floor.

Because a metallic floor cannot be sampled off a screen. The same two pigments read charcoal in a north-facing den and bronze in a room full of afternoon light. You should see it in your own room before we commit.

The look

We can get close on color and general character. We cannot copy it. Every pour moves differently, and anyone promising an exact match is telling you what you want to hear.
Indoors, where people look at the floor. Entries, dens, dining rooms, showrooms and retail. It is a decorative system, so putting it in a working garage is spending money where nobody sees it.
The epoxy will amber over time in direct sunlight, which shifts the color. For a room with big south-facing glass we would spec a UV-stable topcoat over it, or steer you toward polyaspartic.
A high-gloss metallic is slick when wet, like polished stone. A satin topcoat or a fine grit additive fixes that, and we would raise it before you choose the finish, not after.
Not directly. The floor covering comes up and the slab underneath gets ground and prepared. Metallic needs a sound, flat, clean substrate, and adhesive residue is a common reason a floor fails.

Living with it

That is why the sample board exists, and why we talk through how busy you want it first. Once poured, changing it means grinding the floor back and starting again, so we take that conversation seriously.
Dust mop and a damp mop with pH-neutral cleaner. No abrasives, no scouring pads. It is a clear coat you are looking after, and scratches show more on a gloss finish than a satin one.
It can, the same as any resin floor. Grit tracked in from outside is the usual culprit, so a mat at the door does more good than anything else. A satin finish hides light scratching better than gloss.
Two to three days for most rooms. Grinding and base on the first day, the metallic pour on the second, topcoat after that. Foot traffic is usually the day after the topcoat.
